Damn, now that's what I call football. The Sunday night wildcard game on Saturday was one of the most exciting games I have watched all season. The Jets came to Indianapolis to prove to everyone that they belong in the playoffs, despite the Colts being the favored team. During an extremely low scoring and close game the Jets came out on top as Nick Folk kicked the winning field goal that ended the score at 17-16. So what does this win mean for the Jets and how does this affect the Rex Ryan conspiracy? And how can the Jets dethrone the Patriots? Find out after the jump.
The game was intense from the beginning. Back and forth, punt after punt, the score was 0-0 for some time. The Colts scored first in the second quarter, followed by a Jets touchdown in in the third. Then field goal by the Colts, followed by one more touchdown form the Jets. Again the Colts made a field goal because Manning is too bad to score another TD, making the game 14-13 with the Jets still leading. Now this is where the game got nerve-wracking for Jets fans. The Colts managed to score one more field goal giving them the lead with 16. The Jets had about two minutes left in the fourth quarter to steal the game back from the Colts. The Jets started their drive down the field, with time quickly going away. Luckily the stupid Colts called a timeout for the Jets so they could stop the clock and catch their breathe.
The Jets worked their way all the way to the Colt's 32 yard line, where after the play the clock kept ticking. With about 20 seconds left fans watch as the time went down, and no one was calling a timeout. For an instant I thought that they didn't realize the clock was still going, but finally the Jets called a timeout with 3 seconds left. Now I would have rather rely on someone else other than Nick Folk to make the potentially game winning play for the team. But what can I say? He got the job done, giving the Jets 17 with a field goal and earning the victory.
Mark Sanchez played a pretty good game. While haters out there will say that Sanchez is trash they are just upset that the Colts lost. I mean you could say that Sanchez threw some bad passes, and I'll agree with that because that actually happened. But wouldn't you say that Sanchez played better than Manning? Looking at the numbers, Manning is ahead of Sanchez. But the fact of the matter is that the Jets had two touchdowns while the Colts only one. Anyway, one of the most amazing things I saw that game was the Jets' nine minute drive to their second touchdown. I have never seen them run the ball like that all season. I think they should try doing that against the Patriots this week. Not, only did the Jets seem unstoppable as they plowed their way all the way down the field starting from the 13 yard line, but they also managed to keep the ball out the hands of Peyton Manning for almost ten minutes.
Regardless of who ended up winning that game it was definitely a great game to watch. I just read online somewhere that the game broke the record in ratings for a Saturday night wildcard game. It was truly an awesome game to watch, whether you're a Jets' fan or a Colts' fan, the game got more and more exciting as time went on. And for all you Jets fans out there, it must have felt great to see all those Colts' fans and Jets' haters out there and listen to them mumble with excuses about the game. And to see Peyton Manning cry like a baby, priceless.
So where does this victory leave the Jets, and how does this tie into the Rex Ryan conspiracy? Well the Jets were the underdogs going into the Colts game. Now some will argue after the fact that the game was supposed to be close. But all the Colts' fans I know (Tuki) were talking a lot of smack about the Jets before, saying that the game wouldn't even be close. Anyway, the Jets were the underdogs and were able to trump the Colts in the end. Now, Ryan planned this game almost perfectly. He let the Colts score first, and then kept the game close. Then to make things more dramatic Ryan let up a bit and gave the Colts a two point lead. With time quickly ticking away the chances of the Jets regaining the were slim. With this strategy the Jets were able to fully become the underdogs, resulting in an exciting win and the picture seen above.
Beating the Colts was easy for the Jets. The real challenge will be defeating the Patriots. Now I've seen some conspiracy theories out there on the inter-web stating that the Patriots cheated in the last game by getting the Jets plays beforehand.(See Here) I and many of you might call that crazy, as much as I would like to say that the Jets got destroyed due to cheating, that was simply not the case. While it might have seemed that the Patriots could have cheated, it was actually the Jets that cheated. I believe to further the Jets' role as the underdog Rex Ryan leaked the Jets' play-book so that the Patriots could cheat. Ryan knew that beating the Patriots again during the season wouldn't be necessary, and they would still be in the playoffs with the loss. What better way to make the Jets the underdog than to get annihilated from the Patriots.
Now I know the Jets didn't get ten times worse overnight, and the Patriots didn't get ten times better. So it doesn't make sense to me that the Jets won the first game, but lost by a landslide in the last game against the Patriots. I believe that not only is the Rex Ryan conspiracy real, but that Ryan's strategy is far more elaborate than I could have ever imagined. Ryan knew the Patriots couldn't resist cheating, and leaking their plays out on the web for them to steal worked flawlessly. So how do the Jets win the next game if the Patriots have all their plays? Simple, Ryan has a whole knew set of plays that the Patriots will not be expecting. The Patriots will be scrambling to figure out what the hell the Jets are doing. I am sure that this game will be an exciting and memorable one. Ryan will probably keep the game close again. But if I had to guess he might actually give the Patriots a strong lead early on, only to sweep the rug out from under them at the end.
I got to give Ryan credit for conjuring all of this up. The thrown games, the bad press, trip-gate, and the Patriots' setup are all part of a well-constructed plan. The Jets, now more than ever, have become the true underdogs. Some can even say that Ryan's plan had began as far back as last season's loss to the Colts during the playoffs. The Jets playing the Patriots is set to be the David versus Goliath game of the season. I just pray and hope that Bill Belichick doesn't read my blog before the game. I think what Ryan has planned is great, and is almost certain to lead the Jets to victory in addition to exposing the Patriots as the true cheaters and frauds that they truly are. Lets keep our fingers crossed people, and hope that the Jets make it to the super-bowl. God Bless America, God Bless John G, and God Bless the New York Jets.
To address your comment on the Patriots having the Jets playbook, they wouldn't even need the playbook to leak. The Patriots picked up Woodhead, who was released from the Jets earlier in the season, he probably could easily fill in the Patriots on the offensive strategy/plays of the Jets.
